Submerged Arc Furnace (SAF)
The Acticast application for SAF was developed keeping the following two targets 1) Lower Carbon (coal / coke / hard coke / charcoal) consumption per ton of metal 2) Lower power consumption per ton of metal Acticast is to be applied upon carbon fuel in the dosage of 600 grams to 1000 grams per ton of carbon fuel.
Acticast chemical induces very high thermal conductivity in the ores or metals charges that are being processed in the SAF. The following are the advantages 1) Lower carbon consumption to the tune of 10 to 12% (carbon source weight cut directly in the charge) 2) Quicker heating in the furnace 3) Higher metal temperatures by 75 to 150 deg C
4) Lesser slag volume 5) Lesser power consumption compensated to higher metal temperature 6) Higher production 7) Higher reduction for ores
Acticast activity ceases just before it reaches the sparking zone. Alternatively for the same carbon input charge, the metals or ores or minerals can be increased. The results are generally witnessed within 12 hours of application.
Higher metal temperatures obtained is due to better conduction & better thermal absorption environment & not by increasing heat energy in the system. Due to this phenomenon only the carbon fuel can be compensated. Acticast exits the system by slag route.
